Scripture for Encouragement

7 Scriptures for Encouragement

We may as well be honest - life sucks sometimes.  When we take a moment to run through most aspects of our lives, we can find something to frustrate us, sadden us, discourage us, or overwhelm us.  Because of this, go-to encouragement is always needed.

God set a convenience store on my heart one day.  Consider this:  Some of us are closer to our convenience store than we are to our convenience Scripture.  Some of us gas up our cars more than we gas up our spirit.  And, because of this, many of us are riding around on "E" in our spirits.  No encouragement to drive forward.

We all need encouragement, and - like a convenience store - we all need that Scripture close by in our spirits when our gas runs low, when our sugar levels run low, or when we just need to stop and rest.  I have listed seven Scriptures you can turn to when you need encouragement.  I read through over 200 encouraging Scriptures to get this list, pulling from other people's Scripture references that they use during hard times, including my own.  For convenience, I have listed them in order of Scripture.  If you find a favorite, feel free to write it down.  Put it under your pillow.  Tape it to your mirror.  Put it in your wallet.  Create it as a wallpaper on your phone.  Whatever you choose to do, keep it close.  It's for you.  Let's get to it.

7 Scriptures for Encouragement

1. Deuteronomy 31:6 - "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

2. Psalm 23 - "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.  He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever."

3. Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways, submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."

4. Psalm 46:1 - "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble."

5. Isaiah 41:10 - "Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."

6. Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

7. Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

If you came here, it was for reason.  Should that reason be for anything other than teaching or reaching someone who is in the middle of battle, my prayer is that this bible study will refocus your mind and re-anchor your heart.  I am praying that you will be fed, fueled, and strengthened by the Spirit of God and  that what ever you are going through will not break you.  You can do this.  In Jesus Name.

Scripture

"In the world, you will have tribulation.  But take heart; I have overcome the world."

John 16:33

Reflection

1. What discourages you the most?

2. When are you most encouraged?

3. How will you begin to attack discouragement moving forward?

Prayer

Father God, this world is too much sometimes.  The stress, confusion, fear, doubt, frustration, and temptation are too much sometimes.  Father, I'm asking that You will start intervening during these times.  Refocus my mind on Your Word and what You have declared.  Help me remember that the world doesn't take priority over Your Word.  Lift me up with Your Right Hand.  Be my shelter.  Be my rock.  Be my Light.  Be my Salvation.  In times of trouble, give me the strength again to reaffirm to the world of Your goodness.

It is Your Name and in Jesus' Name I pray.

Amen.
